Description

The Urban Environment Administration has a comprehensive responsibility for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility.

We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The administration owns and manages the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work at the administration.

The Urban Environment Administration is part of the urban development administrations in Gothenburg City. Together, we work to create conditions for a functioning infrastructure, quality housing and premises, an inviting public environment, and strive for the city to be sustainable from all perspectives.

Tasks

Do you want to help develop attractive, safe, and sustainable urban environments and natural areas in Gothenburg? The Urban Environment Administration plays an active role in the development of sustainable Gothenburg, and the environmental unit is an important part of that work.

As an environmental officer, you will support the administration's operational and investment projects, ensuring that the administration complies with the requirements of the Environmental Code, as well as achieving the city's set goals in environmental and climate matters. The position may also involve certain environmental strategic tasks. You will work broadly with issues related to the entire scope of the Environmental Code, but with a specific focus on the unit's administrative development. We work together to ensure that Gothenburg remains an environmentally sound city during the extensive infrastructure construction period we are facing. In this work, we connect environmental issues in our construction projects with environmental strategic questions.

In the role of officer, you will provide broad environmental support within the administration's various projects. The work includes reviewing consultants' investigations, environmental plans, notification and permit documents, exemptions, environmental investigations, etc., as well as occasionally preparing these documents yourself. Furthermore, you will support project management in considering applicable environmental requirements and laws at various stages of the projects and act as a contact person for the supervisory authority. You will also participate in environmental start meetings at the beginning of contracts and environmental audits.

Part of the job involves assisting with planning, coordinating, and following up on the unit's work. Updating routines, processes, and templates is a significant part of the development work.

The position is located in the environmental unit, where we are a group of 14 dedicated employees working together to support projects and operations within the administration. The unit consists of planning leaders, environmental officers, and environmental strategists.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree related to the field
  • Good knowledge of developments in the environmental field
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation
  • Interest and experience in working methodically with structure, processes, and administration
  • Good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written.

The position requires a B driver's license.

It is an advantage if you have broad experience working in several areas of the Environmental Code. It is also advantageous if you have experience with green environmental issues (e.g., biotope protection, species protection, invasive species) and active participation in collaborative forms within the environmental field.

To succeed in this position, we are looking for someone who takes initiative and has a strong commitment and enthusiasm for their work. You communicate information and ideas clearly and ensure that your message is conveyed. Within the unit, we work together in a group on environmental issues, but you should also have the ability to work independently. We are looking for someone motivated to learn new things and develop. You actively monitor developments in your profession and regularly reflect on what needs to be improved in your work.

Welcome with your application!

Conditions

We are currently renovating our workplace at Köpmansgatan 20, where all urban development administrations will gather. The new premises are expected to be ready by 2026 – until then, we are located at Postgatan 10.

With us, you will work in an administration focused on development, collaboration, and diversity. We offer flexible working hours (with exceptions in certain departments), wellness benefits, and cycling perks - so you can combine an exciting job with a sustainable private life. As an employer, we have a duty to ensure that you have the right to reside and work in Sweden. Therefore, at a physical interview, you will need to show a passport or national ID card. Selection and interviews are conducted continuously, so do not wait to apply!
